Acreage

A Custom 2 Car Detached Garage for Curtis & Lisa's Acreage

A 34' x 42' detached post frame garage that pulls its weight on Curtis and Lisa's acreage with secure storage and comfortable workspace inside, plus an exterior design that earns a second look from the road.

Designed For You

Building Customizations

While many acreage garages are built as simple storage buildings, Curtis and Lisa wanted a 2 car detached garage worth admiring, without sacrificing the storage capacity, security, and functionality that were at the top of their wish list. At 34′ x 42′ with 12′ walls, the interior has space for a vehicle lift, workbenches, and tools, while the exterior showcases their personal tastes.

Covered Entrance

Keeping the Elements Out & Adding Curb Appeal

A covered porch at the front of the 2 car detached garage creates a sheltered entrance that keeps snow, rain, and moisture out of the building. Visually, the exposed posts add character and visual interest to the garage.

Day to day, the porch creates a dry place for Curtis and Lisa to pull off muddy boots and leaves a spot to take a break and appreciate the quiet and peace that comes with their acreage property.

Features

6' x 8'

The modest lean-to that creates the porch is a modest but meaningful addition to the acreage garage building.

Details That Elevate the Garage & Property

The exterior is where Curtis & Lisa’s detached 2 car garage stops looking like a standard plan and starts looking like a building designed according to their tastes.

Twin cupolas with weathervanes and a widow’s peak give the roofline a distinct presence, and a band of wainscoting draws a clean line against the red cladding. Curtis and Lisa selected carriage-style overhead doors with glass panels. Together, the exterior details create a design that’s hard to get from a standard plan.

Features

36" x 36"

At 36″ x 36″ the decorative cupolas are a distinctive touch that sit proudly on the peak of the roof.

2 Car Detached Garage Built to Last

A distinct design was only part of Curtis and Lisa’s criteria. The other part was building a garage they wouldn’t have to worry about, knowing that it will stand the test of time, and that comes down to the details nobody sees.

The whole detached garage sits on a Perma-Column foundation, which takes the worry of rotting posts and foundation repairs out of their minds. From there, eavestrough and downspouts pull water away from the foundation and a 2′ roof overhang with soffit lets the attic breathe so the building is protected against moisture from the foundation up to the roof.

Features

5"

5″ eavestroughs and downspouts are sized to handle heavy rains and promote proper site drainage through every season.

Naturally Lit Interior

Sunlight & Airflow for a Comfortable 2 Car Detached Garage

Inside, this building had to be more than a secure place to park. It’s where the projects and hobbies that come with acreage living get done, so it was built to be a space comfortable enough to spend weekends and evenings in.

Three sliding windows on each gable wall pull daylight from both ends, and the glass panels in the overhead doors support visibility and complement the artificial lighting system. Because those windows sit directly across from each other, they also move air through the building. That cross-breeze is the difference between a long afternoon under the lift that stays comfortable and one spent in a hot, stuffy box.

Features

4' x 3'

Standard-sized vinyl slider windows support both the energy-efficiency and interior comfort of the building.
