At Remuda Building, we specialize in custom solutions for our clients’ unique post-frame building needs. In this project feature, we’re excited to spotlight a recent project: a 60’ x 200’ x 18’ open-ended post-frame shed designed specifically for the needs of a fertilizer blending & screening business near Linden, Alberta.
Kerry came to Remuda with two requirements. The first being that the building needed to remain open on one side to allow for convenient loader access. This meant that special considerations needed to be made for post spacing, and to ensure structural integrity while still accommodating the loaders. The second was that the building needed to be constructed in a 6-acre asphalt yard. Typically, post-frame buildings are built by drilling post hole directly into the earth, but the layer of pavement on Kerry’s property presented a unique opportunity.
To allow plenty of clearance for loaders to maneuver in and out of the shelter, we designed the building with nearly 20 feet of spacing between the posts along the open side. To compensate for fewer posts, and maintain the structural integrity of the shelter, we added metal brackets to strengthen the connection between the roof system, and the posts on the open side of the shed.
Getting through the layer of asphalt during post-hole drilling didn’t present a challenge – the auger bits and skid steer Remuda uses for our projects can easily penetrate several inches of asphalt. In fact, the paved yard made certain aspects of the construction process easier than normal. For example, having a completely flat surface to drive in trusses made installation smooth and efficient.
Today, the post-frame shelter is fully operational and helping Kelly’s fertilizer blending & screening business run their daily operations.
